This motorcycle tour is considered a longer ride because it is about 5.5 hours in duration not counting stops along the way and is approximately 239 miles (385 kilometers) in length. Make sure you have full gas tanks for crossing the Everglades, it is mostly wilderness.

Directions

From your starting point at Tamiami Trail and 5th Avenue:

·         Take US41 S / Tamiami Trail E toward Miami

·         At Ochopee you will pass Skunk Ape Headquarters-at MotorcyclingFlorida we have no opinion as to whether this creature actually exists or not but we can safely predict that you will see alligators and other wildlife on this ride

·         At mile marker 36 you happen upon the Miccosukee Indian Village, a popular Everglades tourist attraction featuring a museum and renowned alligator show, also a gift shop, restaurant and airboat rides all open 9am to 4pm

·         Continuing on when you reach the junction of State Road 997/Krome Ave, turn right to head south

·         At Florida City which is just beyond Homestead, you reach US1; turn right to head south toward Key Largo

·         US1/Overseas Highway takes you all the way to Key West by crossing from Key to Key over 42 bridges, one of which is 7 miles long

·         The Florida Keys Visitor Center is located at 106240 Overseas Highway, Key Largo, your place for maps, restaurant coupons and discount hotel reservations

·         Continuing south, at 104080 Overseas Highway sits the Caribbean Club; it’s a lively waterfront bar where Humphrey Bogart’s “Key Largo” was filmed

·         The famous vessel, “The African Queen” from the 1951 movie of the same name is tied up at 99701 Overseas Highway next to Holiday Inn Key Largo – also at this location is the Key Largo Princess Glass Bottom Boat offering daily reef cruises

·         At 85361 Overseas Highway in Islamorada you find Hog Heaven Sports Bar and Grill, a hot night spot with live music, open 11am to 4am

·         Next attraction is Theater of the Sea at 84721 Overseas Highway where you can swim with dolphins, open 9:30am to 5pm

·         On Big Pine Key you come across Bahia Honda State Park with its public beach and kayak rentals

·         Continuing south on US1/Overseas Highway/State Road A1A you find the Key West Visitors Center at mile marker 31.2 – it’s a tourist information center featuring Key West attractions

·         Finally at Key West you will encounter a “T” intersection

·         The right lane is US1 which turns you right, toward the Southernmost Point

·         The left lane is SRA1A which turns you left and takes you to the beaches

·         US1 curves around on N Roosevelt Blvd – it passes Banana Bay Resort and Marina on the right where we have stayed many times – we found it to be quite reasonable pricewise, plus it has off street parking, a pool, tiki bar, free continental breakfast and it’s adults only

·         N Roosevelt becomes Truman Avenue; follow it to Duval Street and turn left

·         Turn right at South Street and you reach your destination at the Southernmost Point

We hope you have a great motorcycle ride through the Everglades where traffic is light and wildlife abundant, and on across the Overseas Highway where you will encounter more traffic but it usually moves along well and the sightseeing is life-changing. Please remember, if you drink, know your limit and stick to it. Thanks for visiting MotorcyclingFlorida.com. For traffic and construction info visit www.FL511.com. For map click here.
